Land-based Group Fitness Descriptions

Group Exercise Class Schedule
The Aberdeen Family YMCA offers over 49 land-based fitness
classes per week. Our group fitness classes are designed to challenge the
intermediate / advanced participant and encourage the beginner. Whether
you are an advanced athlete or novice exerciser come join us for a great workout
in a non-intimidating atmosphere.
Beginner Level Group Fitness
Gentle Yoga: (not available at this time)
Start from the beginning and learn the fundamental yoga poses and flow, combining breath with movement in order to build strength and flexibility. This class is for beginners and active older adults.
Absolutely Abs -This workout targets the abdominal
muscles. Learn the proper form and technique for targeting the abs and
obliques. Come join us in the studio for this 15-minute class!
Arms & Abs…This workout targets the biceps, triceps,
shoulders & core muscles. Come check out this 25-minute class that will
tone and strengthen all the muscles in the arms & abs!
Butts & Guts…This
25-minute class will work your butts & guts to fatigue! Get ready to
“feel the burn” during this great lower body workout! This class
focuses on the buttocks, inner and outer thighs, hamstrings, quads &
abdominals. Resistance bands, balls,weights and slides may be used.
All levels welcome!
Senior Shape Up - This class is for seniors who wish to
stay fit forever. ID’s will be checked!!
A.O.A.
Yoga (Active Older Adult) – This class is designed for the Active Older Adult population
& is a wonderful form of exercise. Classes are calming & uplifting.
You will practice gentle stretches to help open joints & release
muscles. Learn to breathe deeply, improve circulation, strength,
balance & flexibility. Guided Relaxation will also be practiced.
Taking part in this yoga class can increase your flexibility, decrease
your chances of osteoporosis, contribute to a better (& more fun)
quality of life, plus numerous other physical & emotional benefits. Be
safe & enjoy yourself! Classes are suited for standing and/or sitting
in chairs.

Easy rider Cycling: Join this non-impact easy on the joints, indoor cycling lcass for beginners or active older adults. Learn correct bike set-up, form, hand positions, cadence and how to incorporate heart rate training for a more effective workout.

Sculpt & Tone: Rev up your lunch hour with this
total body weight training workout! This class uses dumbbells, bands, fitness
balls, tubing, Gliding Discs, the Bosu, etc. to challenge all the major muscle
groups. Appropriate for all fitness levels.
Body Blast: It's not a party, but it's a Body Blast! This class combines weight training with cardiovascular exercise and is filled with liveliness, enthusiasm and lot of fun! A variety of equipment is used such as body bars, body balls, cables, BOSU, gliding discs, jump ropes, hula-hoops, the step and more. All fitness levels welcome!
Total Body
Conditioning (TBC)…This class incorporates STEP, Aerobics & Muscle, using the Step, body
bars, athletic conditioning, jump ropes, body balls, cables, interval
training, and the best music ever! The class format is a 4:2:1
pattern (4 minutes
of Step, 2 minutes of Aerobics, and 1minute of Muscle). Step
training provides the cardiovascular benefits of running, but stresses
the joints little more than walking. All fitness levels are
encouraged to attend this fun and challenging class. The instructor will offer low, intermediate and
high impact workout options.
Muscle Madness…this
is an instructor led, muscle conditioning class using a variety of
equipment. Some of the equipment used may include body bars, fitness
balls, Bosu, resistance bands, gliding discs, dumbbells etc. This class is
designed to help tone all the body’s muscles and increase muscular
endurance.
Hatha Yoga…Practices
the fundamentals of Yoga through stretching, strengthening and proper
breathing.
W.A.Y
Yoga…”Weights
and Yoga” incorporates strength training and yoga in a 45-minute class,
giving you the benefits of both. Yoga in itself has strength building
benefits… this class will challenge you even more! You should have a
basic knowledge of yoga poses before attending this class.
Cycling: Is a non-impact cardiovascular workout. No pounding on the joints! You will train wearing a heart rate monitor that allows you to workout at your own intensity and heart rate level, ensuring a more effective workout. Please bring your own water bottle.
Just Dance: This hour class will begin with a 40-minute cardio portion and end with 15 minutes of strength and stretching. All fitness levels welcome, so Get Up...Move To The Music..... and JUST DANCE!
Ready for a Challenge?
Interval Challenge.... Push yourself even harder as you combine weight training with a
cardiovascular exercise. This class uses a variety of equipment to
challenge all the major muscle groups and keeps your heart rate pumping
for the entire class. This class is not for beginners!
Turbo Step…Stuck in a
rut? This hi-lo aerobic workout will energize & inspire you. This 50
minutes class is the ultimate challenge. Turbo Step will challenge
your agility, speed, strength and endurance. Various drills, stations,
intervals & choreographed combos will take your training to a new
level.
Boot Camp: Back By Popular Demand!
I don't know, but I've been told, Physical Training never gets old. Push - ups, crunches, cable runs.... We do these things just for fun!
Power / Ashtanga Yoga…Uses dynamic breathing and a
sequential order of poses to create an energetic, high heat workout.

All participants must be 14 years old to participate in any adult land group fitness class or have the approval of the Fitness Director.

No street shoes in the studios. Whenever possible carry your workout shoes into the building.
