2012 YMCA GIRLS
INTERSTATE
TOURNAMENT

The 32nd annual Girls Interstate Basketball Tournament was held this past weekend (November 30 & December 1) in Aberdeen at 10 different venues. The tournament drew 51 teams from throughout North Dakota and South Dakota. The impact it has on the city of Aberdeen is enormous as not only do teams come to town but parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles and friends follow the athletes playing basketball. A tournament of this size cannot begin to take place without dedicated volunteers and staff who have a love for kids, the Y, and the game of basketball. We would like to take a moment to thank all of those who played in the tournament, volunteered in some capacity with the tournament or placed an ad in our tournament program. Our goal is make each tournament bigger and better than the one previous.

AGAIN, WE'VE REACHED OUR GOAL...
AND WE THANK YOU!!!

YDC UPDATE

Progress continues on the Youth Development Center.  Families are looking forward to a state of the art facility for their children – one that includes in floor heat for kids crawling on the floor, indoor play area during inclement weather, advanced technology for learning, secured access with electronic surveillance, a pleasing and warm environment, among others.  We have reached 90% of our financial goal for the facility with plans to finish the campaign prior to occupying the facility next July.  If you have not had the opportunity to contribute to this worthwhile community project yet, you can do so by either stopping into the Y or donating online, HERE.

Tip for the Month
With childhood obesity at epidemic levels, it’s important that children stay active. Here at the Y, we are concerned with keeping kids active and developing positive life-long habits that encourage a healthy living lifestyle. Our Youth Sports programs focus on participation and skill development. As kids participate and stay involved, they learn and develop skills in an activity they will be able to participate in for a lifetime. This encourages them to stay active, become responsible citizens and create a lifestyle that is healthy; a benefit everyone will enjoy.
