GOOD HEALTH &
GOOD FRIENDS

Virginia Hoff, who is pictured above, started working out at the Y in January 2008. She knew she needed to be more active and the incentive to do so at home just never worked. Virginia goes to Aquacise class three times a week and Senior Shape Up twice a week. The incentive to go there is no problem. The friends and good instructors make it easy for her to keep the dates.
Virginia started volunteering in Child Watch in February 2008. She says she wanted to stay young and working with little ones will keep you active and put a smile on your face. “Working in Child Watch has been so rewarding,” Virginia says, “ to watch the babies grow to little men and ladies who now attend school and new little ones taking their place.”
She’s lived in Aberdeen since 1965, coming from Roscoe where she was the City Editor of the weekly newspaper for ten years. After moving to Aberdeen, she was employed at Walgreen Drug as a bookkeeper and pharmacy technician then went to work for Medical Center Pharmacy for 35 years as a pharmacy technician retiring in 2010.
Virginia says life has been challenging, but also rewarding. “We should count all our blessings, there is no wealth like good health, good friends and the Y is a good place to find both!”

BRUCE KLEINSASSER
NAMED EMPLOYEE OF
THE QUARTER

Bruce Kleinsasser, an excellent employee of 25 years, was named Employee of the Fourth Quarter. Bruce has strong verbal skills and loves interacting with others to help them feel energized. Bruce is a firm believer in following the rules and setting a high standard. This high standard is one that is an absolute must in the Aquatics Center.
He teaches lifeguarding to many kids in our area to be accountable for people’s lives and he takes it very seriously. Bruce currently teaches Group Fitness classes, CPR and First Aid, Lifeguarding, and WSI for the Y. He has taught at least a dozen Health and Safety courses every year.
Bruce has always been very gracious when it comes to financially contributing to the Y. When it comes to lack of funds to purchase equipment like lifeguarding tubes or the Zumba speaker, he is always willing to donate.
Bruce truly believes in the four core values. He is as responsible as one can get, we never bat an eyelash when he is on duty or teaching a class. He always shows up early and ready to go, so that everyone can have a great experience. He truly cares about everyone.
Overall, he truly cares about our members and their experience at the Aberdeen Family Y.

ANN TAECKER VISITS THE YDC

In December, the Uproar program was lucky enough to have SD Artist
in Schools and Communities Resident, Ann Taecker, do a residency
at the Youth Development Center. Ann came to us by way of a grant from the SD Arts Association.
She worked with the children in Uproar for a week to develop and
create beautiful works of art with our Wizard of Oz theme. The artwork
now hangs in our Uproar hallway at the YDC, some are shown below. Ann is anxious to come again this
summer and help the children create some more masterpieces!
