WORTH A
THOUSAND WORDS

SD ARTS COUNCIL ARTIST: ANN TAECKER

In July, Y Childcare was fortunate to host Ann Taecker through a South Dakota Arts Council grant. Ann worked with almost 100 of our children to learn about art through projects. A special thank you to Ann for all her great work and making our summer one to remember.

SEARCH & RESCUE DOGS

Also in July, the Great Plains Search Dogs and their handlers came to visit with the YMCA Summer Safari kids. Sandy Vernlund, certified K9 handler of Great Plains Search Dogs, taught the children the importance of staying put if they become lost. She also used pictures to describe who may come looking for them and even gave the children whistles to blow if they ever become lost. Shadow, Boda, Rowdy & Max all took turns “searching” for the children as they hid! To view more photos of the Search & Rescue Dogs, CLICK HERE.

GROUP FITNESS: SPIN BACK TO THE 80s & 90s!

Group Fitness Instructors, Molly Hornaman and Jen Phillips, led “Spin Back to the 80’s” and “Spin Back to the 90’s” cycling rides throughout the summer. Participants were encouraged to dress up in their favorite 80’s & 90’s outfits and all participants received special door prizes. Steven Gellhaus donated special lighting which added to the 80’s & 90’s theme. A huge thank you to Molly, Jen and Steven!
