IT’S A SUMMER
TO DISCOVER
DOWNLOAD OUR SUMMER YOUTH GUIDE
Our summer camps, sports, and activities at the Y share one thing: they’re about discovery. Kids have the opportunity to explore nature,
find new talents, try new activities, gain independence, and make
lasting friendships and memories. And, of course, it’s fun too.
Summer also is a time to discover how to become and stay active
to develop healthy habits for a lifetime. And the benefits are far
greater than just physical health. Whether it’s gaining confidence
or connecting with others, joining the Y is about building the whole
person, from the inside out.

MAKING A
DIFFERENCE
VOLUNTEERS MAKE IT HAPPEN
A big thank you to all the volunteers that helped out at this year’s Y Interstate Boys and Girls Basketball Tournaments! Our volunteers give a tremendous amount of their time fulfilling a passion they have for boys and girls to create memories on the basketball court. In 2011 we celebrated the 40th anniversary for the boy’s tournament and in December 2010 we celebrated the 30th anniversary for the girl’s tournament. For any tournament to have this type of longevity, it has to have an ingredient that continues to draw people. Our volunteers are the major reason for the success.
"I started as a Y Volunteer because my future wife asked me to referee a Y Tournament. I decided I would because I remembered the excitement when I played and wanted to give something back. I continue to volunteer some twenty plus years later because of my love of sports and now my wife and I can coach our children. No words will ever express the positive influence the Y programs have on youth development." – John Ewart
NEW LEAF:
SPRINGING INTO ACTION
IN ROSCOE, SD
"This is exactly the tools that people need to approach their personal wellness goals and I was impressed with the amount of individualized information that can be gained from this technology."
- Esther Preszler, Nurse Practitioner and owner of the Roscoe Wellness Center
New Leaf staff Jackie Braun and Tina Birgen (pictured above, left to right) traveled to the Roscoe Wellness Center to provide a wellness presentation and share the
New Leaf Program. The dynamic duo offered helpful nutritional information and body measurements, assisted in wellness goal setting and performed an exercise assessment demonstration (pictured above). It was a worthwhile trip and they hope to see a few new faces at the Aberdeen Family Y in the future!
