A BRAND
NEW BEGINNING

What an exciting day August 1 was – the first day of children in the new Youth Development Center. Everyone was anxious to see how the new facility would be accepted and enjoyed by children, parents, and staff. And it was a hit! About 40 youth from First United Methodist and community service volunteers moved furniture, supplies, and equipment from the Learning Tree and After the Bell into the building the previous day. Once it arrived, staff were unpacking and getting their rooms ready to greet their class. What an amazing job the staff did in getting ready for the first day. We know they worked very late unpacking, arranging, and making their rooms exciting. Now that we’re in the new facility, we’re working out the operational bumps which continue to pop up periodically. Thank you to every person, organization and business that so generously has given to this important community project. We feel it will have a similar impact to the area that the Y has had and we take your trust in us very seriously.

EMPLOYEE OF THE
SECOND QUARTER:
AMY FLAKUS

Amy has the four core values written not only on her sleeves as she works but more importantly on her heart! She goes out of her way to accommodate all the members she comes in contact with. She has worked in the Y for many years and has always displayed a life of integrity and passion. There’s never been a negative comment aimed at Amy in all her time here as it pertains to her character and integrity and ability to serve members.

Amy has been covering many group fitness instructors in all forms of group fitness classes. She teaches TRX, Body Pump, Step, various Aerobics, specialty classes, Senior Shape Up, Circuit Express, literally she can teach most all the classes offered. There are not many people who would be that accessible to cover for others. That proves her passion for the Y and for others. And I believe she is one of the few who have a heart for the older active adults in our Y. Her focus makes those who aren’t “popular” feel popular and loved! That is priceless!

CONGRATULATIONS & WAY TO GO AMY!

BULL RUN 2013

We would like to thank our major sponsors and everyone who volunteered their time or donated food and drink or just came to cheer on the runners. An event of this size would not be possible and would not run as smooth as it does without the help of everyone involved. We had 300 people participate in the Bull Run this year, which is our largest Bull Run to date... 221 runners, 24 walkers, and 55 munchkins and 75 volunteers! Thank you all for making this a very successful event!

THANK YOU 3M VOLUNTEERS!

We would lastly like to thank 3M for helping us move into our new facility. They helped with assembling furniture, hanging signage, moving boxes, and so much more.

Tip

When we set goals, we sometimes run into problems reaching them. Keep in mind that sometimes the thing we want in life will involve stress, frustration, adversity—and failure. The key is to learn from what didn't work the first time and figure out a new way of reaching the goal. In the process, you will discover your resiliency, and how much you learn from tough times in life.
