STAFF SPOTLIGHT:
MEET AMY SEVERSON

severson Amy Severson is the wonderful Lead Teacher in the Wizard Room. Amy and her family and live 16 minutes (yes, 16) east of Aberdeen. Her husband Mike is a feedlot manager. Her children grew up in YMCA Childcare. Rachael is a junior (pictured far left), Eric is in 5th grade (pictured in the middle) and Matthew (second on the left) is in kindergarten in the Ipswich school system. Amy has been a preschool teacher through three different name changes for her room. She loves the family atmosphere we have here at our childcare. Her favorite part is having brothers, sisters, cousins and neighbors go through my preschool class. Morning circle and storytime are her favorite parts of teaching preschool. Even though singing is not her strong suit, she has a song for just about everything! Amy loves turning ‘can’t’ into ‘can’s’, giggle’s and hugs.

FAMILY SPOTLIGHT:
MEET THE DINGER'S

dingers You’ve heard of the popular game “6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon?” Well, we have our own version of this game at the YDC, “3 Degrees of Dingers.” Last month our spotlight family was Levi and Jes Dinger whose sons, Camden and Talon, are in the Professor and Flower Patch classrooms. This month we are featuring another branch of the Dinger family tree with Levi’s brother, Derrick. Derrick and Kristen Dinger have three kids who are all in different classrooms from Camden and Talon. Hudson (6) is in Kindergarten at CC Lee and is in the Uproar classroom, Baylor (4) is in the Storm classroom and Breckyn (8 months) is in the Lullaby League room.

Derrick and Kristen are both proud graduates of NSU, where they met. Derrick is the Managing Director for Northwestern Mutual in Northeast South Dakota. Kristen is an Advanced Certified Paralegal at the law firm of Richardson, Wyly, Wise, Sauck & Hieb and also the Executive Director for the South Dakota Defense Lawyers Association.

Hudson is becoming very active in youth activities. He is involved in soccer (where his dad coaches him), wrestling, basketball, and t-ball. When he’s not playing a sport, Hudson is into Ninja Turtles, super heroes, drawing, riding his bike, all things green, board games and “projects” (his mother refers to his “projects” as “messes”, but the mess doesn’t seem to bother Hudson). Many of you may have met Hudson as he is a very outgoing and social kid.

Baylor is a spunky four year old who is willing to try anything. Currently, she is passionate about dressing herself and takes the meaning of “layering” to a whole new level. Her mom equates her fashion sense to the likes of Punk Brewster! Baylor is always one step behind Hudson, trying to learn new things. She likes coloring, riding bike, NSU volleyball games (particularly she enjoys watching her favorite player, Sami Nygaard), doing her hair, changing clothes, puzzles, books, and yes, “projects.” Often, Hudson and Baylor can be found in the pantry with the door shut, working on their “projects.”

Breckyn is the newest addition to the family. She’s into crawling and putting everything in her mouth. Her favorite time of the day is when her older siblings go to bed. It’s her chance to play on the floor without being kicked, crushed, picked up, or drug around. People say she looks like Baylor and her parents say she acts like Hudson. This combination is sure to cause trouble!

The Dinger family enjoys spending time together going to the park, NSU activities, riding bikes, playing in the backyard and watching football. It is a split household as the boys are Vikings fans and the girls are Broncos fans. They have figured out a way to make this work, though, just ask Baylor. She is quick to point out that the Broncos are her favorite team, but she hates the Bears. That’s enough to keep her dad happy!
