A month ago we sent out a survey to 100 families asking you how we are doing and what you would like to see in the future. Most of the things you mentioned as concerns were already concerns of ours. The three biggest concerns were cleanliness of building and children, communication and our parking lot.

We work tirelessly on making sure our building is clean. Much of the cleaning is done throughout the day by staff (a tough balancing act when we are also caring for children) but the majority of our janitorial duties are done by a nightly cleaning company. Thanks to your input we were able to hire a new company that is working hard to make sure that all of our floors, sinks, toilets, walls, windows etc. are clean and sanitized daily. Every staff is coached to make sure children leave our building looking much like they came. Some dirt is naturally going to happen during play but our goal is for faces, hands and diapers to be clean when you leave us for the day! Communication is huge in this big building. We talk every week in our Lead Staff meetings about new, better and other ways to communicate with parents and each other. Unfortunately much of ‘staff’ communication happens during the day…staff ‘visiting’ with each other…staff ‘taking a text from a work mate’…staff ‘answering their cell phone’. We understand that you may think that our job is an easy one and that communication comes naturally but, just like you, we all respond to different communication in different ways. Some of our staff are dedicated to the staff blog to learn what’s happening in our building.

Some staff rely on lead staff to direct them in their daily activities and interactions. Some staff love their email. Some staff need written communication. Some staff rely on their phone…especially in this big building or if they are away from the center. We know that all of these methods of communication are also true for you. You may have noticed the classroom entrances have communication boards outside of them. We are still relying on the personal touch in our infant rooms as that is a necessity when it comes to our youngest enrollees. EVERYONE is making an effort at communication! Some people are better communicators than others. We ask that if you do not understand something, want more information about something, have a concern…do not leave it unsaid or unanswered. Ask a staff member or the front desk staff. All rooms have an email. All rooms have phone extensions. You can ALWAYS call, email, or stop in to see Cari!

To address our parking lot, we painted arrows last fall so that we have a direction of flow. We most recently opened up our northside pick up door to ease the parking lot pains. We only allow staff to part in the parking lot between the hours of 9:00am & 4:00pm. We purchased property on the corner for staff parking to help ease the parking issues. We do try to leave the front parking for only parents. We have asked for a parking ramp but we kind of doubt that will happen in the near future?

2015 YDC GRADS!

What a success! Our second graduating class in the new Youth Development Center has accomplished many things! We cannot wait to see what the future holds for these (not-so) little ones. Seeing most of these graduates grow within our program is something that we will never forget. We are so lucky to have wonderful parents like you, and even more fortunate to have such awesome kiddos in our program. Congratulations grads and good luck in Kindergarten!

Just wait until you see what is possible when you shine your little light on the world!
