Roughly 15 years ago a group of concerned citizens felt it was important to provide a quality wellness center for our community. This group engaged a consultant to confirm our need and whether it would be supported by our community. After that was confirmed, the task was to determine who should be involved with the development and operation of the facility. Northeast Regional Health & Fitness Center (NRHFC) was formed to design a building and raise the funds to build this facility. Through this process, the YMCA partnered with NRHFC and Avera to make this vision a reality and operate the eventual facility.

It was apparent that Aberdeen needed a fitness center to both attract and retain young families. Many individuals and corporations realized the value of such a facility and committed their resources to bring this to fruition. Many other facilities were visited, extensive design modifications were made, and fund raising began in earnest. Our community was able to raise $12.5m to bring a state of the art facility to our area and construction began.

Since that time we have had well over 2,000,000 people grace our doors through various programs. Additionally new members considering moving to Aberdeen are frequently brought to the Y to tour the opportunity they have to enhance their time here.

It’s time to thank all those who have been a part of this important venture. It has now been 10 years since this facility was opened. Had it not been for the vision of NRHFC and the YMCA Boards we may not have realized what we now have. Thank you to each donor who helped make this dream a reality. Thank you to each Y member who continues to use our services. Thank you to the city for its commitment to this project. Thank you to the Boards of NRHFC and YMCA for their commitment to making this partnership work.

With the extensive use our building has enjoyed, we are in the process of updating some interior features. New paint and carpet are being completed giving us a fresh look. We are opening up our facility for everyone to see how the past 10 years has impacted Aberdeen. Please come to an all day open house Thursday, November 19 to see what you have done for our community. There will be special promotions and highlights of the past 10 years expressing our thanks. We couldn’t be more proud of how the community has supported the Y and this project. It has truly exceeded all expectations due to your involvement.

Thank you again,
Steve Graf, Executive Director

A REFRESHING
10 YEARS

To view our video of the desk install, click HERE.

Well believe or not we have come upon our 10 Year Anniversary in this building and realized we were in need of a little facelift! If you’ve been in the Y in the past couple of weeks, (and if you haven’t, please get back in here… we miss you) you have noticed a changes already to parts of the lobby, a fresh coat of paint being applied throughout the first and secone floor, new flooring and a new front desk to better serve you. Putting a little money away each month into our building maintenance fund makes all of this possible without having to pass any of the cost along to you, and we hope you like the finished product.

GIRLS INTERSTATE
TOURNAMENT 2015

We’d like to thank you for your past support of YMCA basketball and invite you to take part in the 35th Annual Interstate Tournament to be held December 4 & 5, in Aberdeen. This tournament is for girls grades 3 – 8 and will include teams from the tri – state area. To put on such a large tournament, we have relied on dedicated volunteers and this year is no different.

Participation in this tournament goes much further than the basketball courts you play on and it lasts much longer than just a weekend. The participation of players and fans helps fund a mission to ensure that all youth will have the opportunity to take part in the fun and rewarding experiences we offer each day.

These experiences provide youth with the life skills required to become future leaders, the confidence and self-esteem they desire, and the safety every child deserves.

WORTH A
THOUSAND WORDS

Spooktacular 2014
We would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to everyone that came out and enjoyed our annual Halloween Spooktacular Event. This year we had just over 750 people graze through our doors and enjoy all that we had to offer. From children, under the age of 2, playing in our tot gym area, to “go fish,” to “inflatables,” to our “haunted maze,” we truly had something for all ages to enjoy! This year was a major success and we cannot thank our volunteers enough for all their support and time making this event go off without a hitch as we had over 30 volunteers. We hope everyone had as much fun as we did!
