The historic YMCA of Aberdeen has been a
community gem, and a treasure to remember.
Here at the “Y”, we have
provided a safe and positive place for youth and families for 80
years. Still, after 80 years in the Aberdeen community, we continue
to dedicate our efforts to provide programs for all ages and
abilities offering the opportunity to take part in health, fitness,
and recreational activities. 
The cornerstone of the Aberdeen YMCA was laid
on a Sunday afternoon in September 1921. Since, the official opening
of our doors on October 19,1926, the pioneers of the Aberdeen Family
YMCA have gone forth advancing our mission.
Driven by the mission of our national organization, we strive to
instill the values of respect, responsibility, caring, and honesty
in all the services we provide. We help build strong kids, strong
families and strong communities.
Our mission here at the Aberdeen Family YMCA is to provide through
cooperative relationships, health, fitness, and
recreational services for families and individuals of all ages in
our community. We will carry out this mission in a Christian environment with services and programs that build
healthy spirit, mind and body and serve all people regardless of
race, religion or economic background.
What we do and why we do it? We do it to serve our members
and our community in Aberdeen and in the Northeast Region of South
Dakota. At the Y, we provide healthy opportunities for all; youth,
families, adults, and seniors. We especially pride ourselves in
opening our doors to everyone whether you’re a beginner or an
experienced exerciser.
The Northeast Regional
Health and Fitness Center was designed with families and special
interest groups in mind. Then it was built by businesses and
individuals who believed in the vision held by hundreds of
volunteers who have labored for years on this vital project.
Without the
financial support provided by individuals, businesses and government
grants, the Northeast Regional Health and Fitness Center could not
have become the reality it is today - the home of the Aberdeen
Family YMCA.
The board of directors, the staff, the members, and their guests
will carry the historic mission of the YMCA of Aberdeen forward by
offering their marvelous new facility as an institution for those,
who search for good health and happiness.
